Zhao Wei FilmsZHAO WEI FILMS is one of the key players in the Singapore film industry. In 1995, it released its maiden feature, MEE POK MAN. Directed by company founder Eric Khoo, the critical hit not only ignited a resurgence of filmmaking in Singapore, but was also the first local film to travel to international festivals including Berlin and Venice. His second film, 12 STOREYS, became the first Singaporean film selected for the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section. Khoo’s BE WITH ME was the opening film of the 2005 Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, while MY MAGIC his fourth feature has the distinction of being the only Singaporean film to vie for the Palm D'or in Cannes (2008).

Zhao Wei Films teamed up with HBO Asia for FOLKLORE (2018) uniting filmmaking heavyweights such as Thailand’s Pen-ek Ratanaruang, Indonesia’s Joko Anwar and Malaysia’s Ho Yuhang alongside showrunner Eric Khoo for the 6 part horror anthology series which has travelled to the likes of Toronto Film Festival, Fantastic Fest and Sitges.

Zhao Wei Films has also taken on the role of nurturing Singaporean film talents, several of whom have found themselves on the world stage. Zhao Wei Film’s Tan Fong Cheng produced, 15 (2003) Royston Tan’s controversial and critically acclaimed movie about delinquency which travelled to Venice and Sundance. Boo Junfeng’s Apprentice (2016) had it’s premiere at Un Certain Regard, Cannes and travelled to over 80 festivals winning 10 awards.

These productions have been represented internationally by the likes of Mk2 , Bavaria, The Match Factory, Celluloid Dreams and Wild Bunch.

gorylah blackGORYLAH PICTURES was established in 2009 in Singapore by Zhao Wei Films and Infinite Frameworks, with the aim of creating an independent horror and fantastical genre label.

Gorylah Pictures is seeking out projects that can succeed commercially in their own domestic market, but also have potential to travel internationally. Focusing on young, emerging talents from South East Asia, Gorylah Pictures is open to funding, co-investing, producing, marketing and distributing for genre films.

Long time collaborators Eric Khoo from Zhao Wei Films and Mike Wiluan from Infinite Frameworks will serve as Executive Producers under the Gorylah label, and together with the team at Gorylah, collaborate with filmmakers to introduce South East Asian talents and its unique brand of genre films to the rest of the world.
